Glamour, Interrupted
By Steven Cojocaru
” In a memoir that moves beyond the celebrity, Glamour, Interrupted is an inspiring and darkly humorous story about how, in the midst of a world obsessed with youth and beauty, Cojo survived what turned out to be the fight of his life. From drug-induced meltdowns to waking up in the hospital on life support, Cojo recounts his desperate hunt for a new kidney—after a failed transplant and months of dialysis—that ended with a twist of fate and forged an even stronger bond with his mother.”
I’ll admit I was a little reluctant to pick up this book. I think I’ve watched Entertainment Tonight for most of my childhood, which is why it was something that I thought I might read. Not that I actually believe half of the stuff on their, but I tire of the doom and gloom on the news and sometimes amuse myself with the silliness of stars. Glamour Interrupted, definitely isn’t something that I would normal read. There was nothing glamorous about it, nor did it contain any fashion/beauty tips (if you know me, I love useless information about fashion for my ever changing mommy wardrobe lol).
Anyhow, I was surprised to read some of the honesty in it. Steven Cojocaru showed a bit of realism in his book and not all the fluff and fak-ism (if that’s even a word) of Hollywood. It was interested to read how stars get treated with illnesses and some of the points as to why he was scared to share his illness with others. It did make him more down to earth than he is shown on television, and a tad bit more interesting, beyond the facade of his made up look on television. It also amazes me to read books like this and to think that people think their behavior is acceptable and that they only can pray when their in crisis… if that’s what you want to call it. Anyhow, it was an interesting read. If you’re interested in fashion, you’ll find it slightly humorous. If you’re interested in the story behind the glamour, you’ll find it more interesting.
