The Wrath of God

The Wrath of God

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven

Against all ungodliness and wickedness of men

Who by their wickedness suppress the truth?

For what can be know about God is plain to them,

Because God has shown it to them.

Romans 1:18-19

Living in a smaller community news travels fast and you have to be careful what you say and do. Being a representative of the Lord, I like to take things up with Him and try not to be judgmental but try to give it into His Mighty Hands and hope that He can help me understand my reactions and feelings, before I do anything or say anything that I might regret. Sometimes, silence really is golden…some things are truly a mystery that are best left to the Lord.

The white framed church, across the street from the house where I walk looked the same as it always did but today something was different. Walking across the street, my heart, mind and spirit filled with anger or should I say wrath. Yes, wrath. I had never felt wrath before. What was different? New age era? New ministers in town? Newly married? Same sex?

Everyone around town was talking. Every time I tried walking by that church, I felt God’s wrath. My gosh, He is angry!

“God why are you angry and what can I do about it? Please help me to help You. Let me be Your servant I prayed.”

Three months, I walked by that little, white church and I mean I walked by that little church. I had to walk across the street from it and I could still feel God’s anger penetrating from that distance. Prior to God putting His wrath on my heart, I could walk on the sidewalk that bordered along the little white church. I could enjoy the colourful flowers that adorned the church property. I would stop and talk to the church members who would be watering, raking or fixing and maintaining their lovely church, all wonderful people in the community. No one in the community wanting any thing to do with homosexuality. None of them wanting their new minister to speak on homosexuality. None of them wanting a homosexual minister. All of them having to accept their new minister. All of them knowing that they either accept the minister that they are offered or their church will fold.

The minister and the spouse worked hard in the community. Wonderful examples of “church people.” The attendance in the church started to perk right up. The sermons were very good…traditional…no shaking the boat…none of this new age stuff – no making people getting out of their seats or making them sing new hymns, like that last minister tried to do. The funeral services were good and the spouse gets in there and works along side and helps out, never complains, they are just real good “church people.” Both of their parents came down and supported them, as well. Wow, can’t really complain about that…and shouldn’t their parents support mean something…I mean the world is changing and I mean we have to go with the times, don’t we?

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in

Sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”

Matthew 7:15

Listening to my heart and trying to make sense out of this intense anger, I question God, “I am not upset with these people, Lord? I understand that they are people and I know that they may sinners but we all are. Why do I feel this anger? I worked with people from all walks of life, all creeds, all races, and homosexuals. I may not like them all but I have to love them all…Your word tells me so. So why the intense anger?

Thinking about the other churches that are Christian by representation, I continue to think about their problems. Child molestation, First Nations abuse, alcoholism, sexual scandal, abortion, homosexuality, money, homicide, etc., why would God pick this little church to vent His anger at? Then it came over me.

“I warn every one who hears the words

Of the prophecy of this book; if any one

Adds to them, God will add to him the plagues

Described in this book, and if any one takes

Away from the words of the book of this prophecy,

God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city,

Which are described in this book.

Revelation 22:18-19

Who was the representative of God in this little white church? Was it not the homosexual minister? And if a murder or an alcoholic or a prostitute or a sex offender were representatives, in any other Christian Church, they would be saying on God’s behalf that God condones homosexuality, alcoholism, prostitution, sex offenders, etc. No wonder God that God was so angered!

“Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of

Their hearts to impurity, to the dishonouring

Of their bodies among themselves, because

They exchanged the truth about God for a lie

And worshiped and served the creature rather

Than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to dishonourable

Passions. Their women exchanged natural

Relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up

Natural relations with women and were consumed with

Passion for one another, men committing shameless acts

With men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty

For their error.

Romans 1:24-27

  1. I totally agree! We need to watch ourselves so we don’t fall or think ourselves above anyone else, but we do not have to condone and accept behavior that clearly is against God, in ourselves or others! Society says we need to love with out point fingers. I agree to a certain extent. Christ when faced by the Pharisees and the woman they caught in sin, said “He who is without sin, cast the first stone” (look at yourself), then to the woman he said “go and sin no more” (you can’t continue in what you have been doing).
