So, I was thinking about when I started to read… what’s the first book that I actually remember reading. I remember my teacher reading us Narnia in grade 3 I believe. I remember my mother reading me a book about Amy the missionary - which seeing my name was Amy was very interesting!!! And of course I had a comic book Bible that I adored (My brother later stole it, and only gave it back to me 2 years ago because he thought I had his copy — which he found he had both; mine and his! ;p) I remember reading a lot of Harlequin romance novels as a child (and yes I mean under the age of 12.. mostly between the age of 8-10).. the first one I bought from a garage sale was Nightingales (Harlequin Romance #2859) by Mary Burchell (Author). How bizzare that I remember that. (yes, I had to look up who it was by lol) I don’t remember who wrote it, or what it was about, other than that it was lovely.. a feeling… and that my 10 cents was well spent (it was a garage sale in the 80’s.. come on!) I’m not even sure my mother knew I was reading Harlequin, but I read a lot of it… I think my mom was just happy that I wasn’t bugging anyone and was doing something on my own. Anyhow, just wanted to share that little tid bit with you!
What is your first reading memory??
So, What’s in your book bag this week? I’ve got two books.
the first is Gorgeously Green by Sophie Uliano.
Okay, I thought I was really enviro-friendly... I’m a geo-thermal, recycler, enviro-friendly light bulb using, homemade cloth diaper making kinda girl, but this lady has got me beat hands down!!! While she talks a lot about Yoga (so not into that–I find that weird, but whatever). She has a lot of great ideas about how to become Earth-friendly in your home, for food, travel, gardening and beauty. She offers a lot of interesting links to items such as sheep poop paper (www.creativepaperwales.co.uk) to reusable bottles.
I think the best part is the “Eight Must-Have products for the Gorgeously Green Girl” for cleaning.
- white vinegar
- Baking soda
- Borax
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- Lemon Juice
- Liquid castile soap
- Olive oil
- essentials oils of lavender, geranium and tea tree
She goes thru the products, what each one does and the benefits of them. She does this with a lot of products that we come across every day in our life.
She goes through so many different ways we can change for the “greener good” that I can’t even begin to list them all. An interesting one for all my coffee drinking lovers out there is www.teeccino.com It’s supposedly similar to coffee enjoyment, but is healthier for you.. (not sure.. we’ll have to check that one out!)
She even talks about different car types such as biodiesel, electric cars, hydrogen (which my mom just bought a hybrid that uses that in her tires!), and blue-green algae. She tells you how to improve your older vehicles as well!
So it’s defineately an interesting book. I’ll be keeping it for a long while to reference different topics. While I will probably not go to the extremes she does on a lot of things, every little step helps our plant last a little longer. What do you do, to be enironmentally friendly?

and my second book that I’ve been using lately is:

So, I had a dinner party, and I found this book ,believe it or not, at the dollar store!!! for yes, 1 dollar!!!!
It is an amazing book! You really should try and get a hold of a copy if you can! I attached the link to a sample of a menu, it explains so much on how to host a party!

It was a really helpful book that I’m sure if you buy, you’ll love it! It really does help with planning, not only the food, but organizing your tables, what to serve with the meals, and ideas for parties! I’ll be holding on to this book for years to come I’m sure. And the chili in the book was a HUGE hit! I’ll be making it again!!

The first book I read I think was Raggedy Ann and I have loved her every since however recently I have several books I’m working on…lol.
Hubby swears that he has never seen me without a book; If not one I’m starting then one I’m working halfway through reading.
Thanks for the reviews.
