My Heart

It was small and red and not scared by life,

It grew and learned early on to love and to trust,

It bled that very first time that a promise was not kept.

It grew to trust some and others not,

It grew to love and laugh with those it could trust,

It bled many times it witnessed things that it should not have.

It reached out to those that cared and those that did not,

It was taught to treat all the same

Yet those who encountered it left marks about it of various sizes and shapes.

It yearned to keep its promises so as not to disappoint,

It learned that life has ups and downs,

It learned that hearts hurt when they are broken.

It learned to forgive and to forget,

It yearned to stay calm and serene,

It learned it could not.

It learned that sorrow is a necessity in life

A catalyst necessary to turn sorrow into joy,

It learned that if one has faith in God and Truth,

That all dreams are not destroyed rather

My heart has learned through these things that life can be restored.
