What’s in your book bag – Sorry about that!

As I try and write this review, I keep getting distracted! First, I was going to have this out last week, but ran out of time (as I thought I’d be home and I wasn’t).. second, the book I reviewed has a tactile part to it. You see the book is Sephora

Now, if you know me, you’ll know that even though at this point my make-up isn’t very existent (mostly b/c of the babies).. I am an extreme girly girl and I loveeeeee purty purty things!! especially putting it on! I was the girl who had manuals of make up when I was a kid.. I had to teach myself because my mom was so not into it lol. Let’s just say I used to do her up more often…

Anyhow! I loved this book. It had a lot of great ideas, refreshing and just interesting products! The book is full of tips and ideas and products that professional makeup artists use. It has products in various categories and gives you the basics of what to do with them. While I noticed several people who reviewed this book said that they were disappointed that it was so basic. Quite honestly I loved it because it gave the clean version of how to apply make up. I think we sometimes get lost in soooo much information and we end up going off the deep end– forgetting what we really know and like; this was just the opposite. The photography was beautiful, the information was easy to grasp and it provided and reminded me of the things I LIKE.

And as I mentioned earlier I was going to write this last week, but i was away. We went to West Edmonton Mall, which just happened to have a Sephora store in it!!!

You can just imagine my shock when I saw it! I got all giddy! I just finished the book and low and behold little ol’ me is standing infront of the store! I must say it totally met my expectations. The girls were totally friendly and helpful! They all were done up well and didn’t look like a bunch of tarts! They were beautiful, and helpful, well dressed and all round professional. It was a store I’d be happy to take my daughters and my grandmother to buy makeup. Even my husband ventured into the store and was impressed with it. I loved their retro girly theme. It was cute. It was so amazing to see girls from 10-70 in the store. I mean literally people in every genre of life and style flowing in and out of the store.

Now there is no use just going INTO the store. I HAD to buy something too. So I was thinking of all the products that I read about in Sephora.. and well you know, you have to figure out if they are just hype, or if they actually work, so I bought myself one that I thought was questionable.

okay, what is lip venom? “The original Lip Venom is a transparent gloss that enhances the natural color and shape of the lips by increasing circulation with a spicy, tingly blend of essential oils including cinnamon and ginger. The result: An attractively pumped up pout.”

hehe, so I can your lips get plumped with out botox? I had to find out. Did the book actually have products that lived up to their info, or was it all just junk? (not to mention the container was pretty.. and who can resist a pretty container?)

Well, my lips sure felt hot and heated from the Venom, and they felt bigger.. I think they look bigger in the pictures… and if nothing else my hubby got a big smoochy out of it and he got heated lips! I definitely had the “just kissed swollen” feeling, which in my old age of 30something is a good thing haha. Seriously though, even if was a hoax, I felt so good with it on I love it! I’d buy it again.. and will! :) The taste was nice, and my lips stayed shiney for a long time.

So I think Sephora’s ultimate guide lived up to it’s name and the store was just as delicious as the book!

It gives us ordinary girls a chance to be “super stars!”

  1. I’m so glad that you are a girly girl…you always make me giggle like I am at a sleep over ;) I love the name ‘Lip Venom’ ;)

  2. You make me smile.

  3. I came across this and had to reply~ I LOVE Sephora, is a dangerous play to walk into though. You never walk out empty handed. The one in NYC is HUGE and like a candy store for the face! I saw this book in the recent catalog and now that you have mentioned it again, I am going to get for my teenager. My Pocket book affords more of ‘Ulta’ these days the Sephora, so I am glad the nearest Sephora is 20 miles away! Great review!
