Fondant covered cookies

I recently discovered a cool way to add dimension to a cake, fondant covered cookies! I am not one for royal icing, i just haven’t developed the knack for it yet ;)

Here are some basic instructions and tips :

1) Bake your sugar cookies as usual

2) You can use the same cutter for the cookie with the fondant, just make sure it is clean and dry ( water melts fondant!) The cookie usually spreads a little, so the fondant should fit perfectly on top.

3) You can cut out the fondant pieces ahead of time and have them ready for when the cookies come out of the oven, and place them on the cookies once you have them on the cooling rack. But don’t touch them until they cool! Chocolate fondant might not work with this, and you can “glue” the fondant on with a tiny bit of icing or corn syrup, after the cookies have cooled. This is also the best option for really detailed cookies.

4) For cookies with more than one color, you can do different colored fondant and just cut out the separate pieces you need to assemble later. ( this is what we did with the Titanic cookie on my blog)

This book is a great resource for decorating cookies:
